Mixing Henna

DAY 1

Recipe:

  • 100 g henna powder (only legit henna powder. Always get it from Marissa.)
  • ¼ cup of white sugar
  • 10 mils essential oil (lavender, eucalyptus, tea tree or cajeput.)
  • ¾ cup room temperature water (add ½ cup, then more if needed.)

Steps:

  • Combine ingredients in a metal bowl. It can stain plastic or wooden bowls.
  • Rubber spatula to mix.
  •  Mix to the consistency of thick, dry mashed potatoes. It should be a little dry/gloopy.
  • Cover with Saran Wrap and leave out in room temperature 8+ hours. Put it in the sun or a warm area to develop faster (6 hour minimum if it’s hot)

DAY 2

You need:

  • ¼ cup room temperature water
  • carrot piping bag (gallon Ziploc in a pinch)
  • tall cup
  • 12” cellophane sheets, cut in half – any size 5-7” will work, just changes ur cone size
  • tape
  • sewing pins
  • paper towel
  • gloves
  • rubber spatula
Steps:
  • Unwrap your paste after it’s set overnight. You can test it by putting a little dot on your palm. Wipe away after 15 seconds and there should be a bright orange spot.
  • Thin the paste out to a creamy toothpaste-like consistency, adding water little by little.
  • Put the carrot bag or gallon Ziploc into the tall cup and fill it like for cake frosting.
  • Roll cones! Can add extra tape along the outside seam for security. https://youtu.be/7Q1IPv0Ll1k
  • Filling and Sealing Henna Cones
  • Underfill the cones, it will spread out a lot. Tape the end, fold over, tape again.
  • Pin and freeze your cones! Mine take about an hour to thaw and last about 3-4 hours at a gig. I will only refreeze ONCE, after that it’s no good in my experience.
